How I Learned to Pack Smarter (And Why I Never Overpack Anymore)

For years, I came home from almost every trip with half of my suitcase full of clothes and travel items that I never even used.

Does that sound familiar?

Like many travelers, I used to pack for every possible scenario. I filled my suitcase with "just in case" items, only to realize they had simply traveled around the world with me without ever leaving my luggage.

Everything changed when I became a full-time photographer.

Traveling internationally for photography assignments meant that my camera gear had to share space with everything else I packed. Cameras, lenses, batteries, chargers, hard drives, and other equipment quickly taught me that every inch of a suitcase matters.

Over time, I realized that packing isn't about fitting as much as possible into your luggage—it's about bringing the right things.

Today, even when I'm traveling without all of my photography equipment, I approach every trip with the same mindset. I try to pack intentionally, choose versatile items, and leave room for the memories and souvenirs I know I'll collect along the way.

I've found that thoughtful packing doesn't just make your suitcase lighter—it also makes traveling itself more enjoyable. There's less stress at the airport, less time spent deciding what to wear, and more freedom to simply enjoy the destination.

Travel has taught me that sometimes the best experiences come from carrying less, not more.
